According to National Calendar Day, today June 6, is National Yo-Yo Day.
During my fourth grade year, I experienced a pivotal moment in my life when my mother presented me with a shiny red wooden toy that had been hidden away in our bottom cabinet drawer.
I was completely captivated by its design. It was then that I knew I had found my new obsession: the art of mastering the yo-yo. Looking back on that moment now, it's amazing to think how much joy that single toy brought me.
As a young child, I quickly graduated from playing with a wooden yo-yo to the new and improved plastic butterfly yo-yo crafted by Duncan. This was my constant companion, accompanying me everywhere I went. Whether it was on the bus or during recess, I happily passed the time mastering the various tricks such as "rock the baby", "around the world" and "walk the dog".
Reflecting on the time before the emergence of popular gaming consoles such as Game Boy, Atari, and Nintendo, it's intriguing to consider what toys were preferred during that day and age.
What was your favorite toy?
